Health surveillance

Both mandatory and voluntary health surveillance are be carried out by our Nursing Advisors help to ensure the employer complies with statutory obligations under the Health & Safety at Work Order (Northern Ireland) 1978 as well as subsidiary legislation.  Surveillance normally includes the assessment of past and present medical conditions, any current medication and history of previous employment.  Examination by the occupational health advisor may include measurement of height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure as well as musculo-skeletal assessments or vision screening dependent on the job specification.  Respiratory, skin, Hand arm vibration (HAVS), night workers, fork lift truck and audiometry assessments may also be carried out as required.  

A written report will be issued and will include:
Fitness for the identified role and any necessary reasonable adjustments
Any necessary follow-procedures
Any “duty of Care “issues.

Asbestos medicals

Asbestos medicals 

If your workers are exposed to asbestos, you should arrange asbestos medicals for them. Prolonged exposure to asbestos mainly causes these diseases: 
  • Mesothelioma
  • Asbestos related lung cancer
  • Asbestosis, a non-malignant scarring of the lung tissue
  • Non-malignant pleural disease affecting the outer lining of the lungs
